Where should I start with Tokyo?

Confirm your airport first, then group nearby neighbourhoods instead of crossing the city repeatedly. Choose a hotel using airport routes and the actual station exit.

From the airport to your stay

  1. Check HND (Haneda) or NRT (Narita) and the terminal on your ticket. The airports have different locations and city connections.
  2. Compare rail and airport buses to the hotel address, including the final walk. Arriving at Tokyo Station is not convenient for every hotel.
  3. For late arrivals, allow time for immigration and bags before checking last services and hotel check-in. Recheck the departure terminal for your return flight.

Itinerary: arrival, sightseeing and departure

  1. Day 1 assumes an afternoon arrival: airport → hotel bags → a local meal and walk. Reduce sightseeing for a late arrival.
  2. Day 2: choose eastern areas such as Asakusa and Ueno. Check temple and shop hours separately.
  3. Day 3: focus on a western area such as Shibuya or Harajuku. If flying out, prioritise the airport journey. Three full sightseeing days require suitable flights and nights.

Choose a hotel area

  1. Tokyo Station area: compare airport and intercity rail connections, but check the hotel’s exit side and walks through the station.

  3. Shinjuku/Shibuya: compare for western plans, checking large-station exits, transfers and night-time noise around the hotel.

  1. Choose a meal style such as sushi, soba or tempura, then a nearby branch. Several distant restaurants in one day add travel.
