Where should I start?

Start with the airport and terminal on your flight booking and your hotel’s address. For Narita, compare N’EX or TYO-NRT towards Tokyo Station with Skyliner towards Ueno or Nippori. For Haneda, compare Keikyu via Shinagawa, the monorail via Hamamatsucho and a bus stop near your hotel. These are JapanPin planning suggestions; the times below do not include reaching your hotel.

Arriving at Narita

Separate Tokyo Station/Shinjuku routes from Ueno/Nippori routes. Skyliner does not run directly to Shinjuku or your hotel.

Arriving at Haneda

Compare a JR transfer at Shinagawa with one at Hamamatsucho. If a bus serves a stop near your hotel, compare the final walk as well.

With a stroller and large bags

Consider stairs, transfers and who will carry each bag as well as the fare. Bus baggage rules vary by operator; an airline’s allowance does not determine what a bus will accept.

Narita: Tokyo Station, Ueno or Shinjuku?

Near Tokyo Station, compare the final walk from N’EX and TYO-NRT arrival points. In Ueno, check the location of Keisei-Ueno. For Shinjuku or Shibuya, compare the relevant N’EX service with a transfer at Nippori. Add immigration, waiting and transfer time to any fastest-train figure. For Asakusa or Nihombashi, also check Access Express destinations and stops on Keisei’s official map.

Haneda: check your terminal and final transfer

Keikyu and the monorail are separate lines. The fare to Shinagawa or Hamamatsucho is not a total fare to every Tokyo hotel. With a stroller, check the lift exit near your hotel separately. For a bus, match the exact hotel or stop name and direction, and save the return boarding point too.

Check children’s seats for each service

On regular TYO-NRT services, an accompanied preschool child needs the ¥750 child ticket when using an individual seat. The N’EX round-trip product also requires a child ticket for a child aged five or under using their own seat. Check age, school-status and seat rules for each service; do not assume every child fare equals half the displayed adult total.

Two suitcases? Check the operator before choosing a bus

TYO-NRT generally allows about one suitcase per passenger. Tokyo Airport Transportation’s general Limousine Bus limit is two pieces per passenger, each within 50 × 60 × 120 cm and 30 kg; jointly operated routes may differ. Check the actual operator’s rules for strollers and large bags. N’EX large-luggage areas are first come, first served without reservations; a reserved seat does not guarantee luggage space.

Late arrival: check the last usable connection

Allow for immigration, baggage collection and terminal walking after landing. Check the last connection all the way to the hotel, not just the airport departure. TYO-NRT lists late-night/early-morning fares of ¥3,000 adult and ¥1,500 child; that fare category does not mean a 24-hour service. If connections fail, tell your hotel about late check-in and compare a taxi or an airport-area stay. Haneda flat-rate taxis cover specified areas and charge tolls separately.

Six things to note before departure

Note ① airport and terminal, ② exact arrival station or stop, ③ hotel entrance route and lifts, ④ adult/child seats and bags, ⑤ travel-date service notices and last connection, and ⑥ hotel check-in deadline. Check the details yourself, then mark the airport task in My trip. This guide does not check live operations or seat availability or confirm a booking.

Questions before you go

What should I compare for a lower-cost Narita–Tokyo Station trip?

Compare the regular bus and reserved-seat trains in the table above. Include waiting, traffic and the final hotel journey as well as the ticket price.

Can I board Skyliner or N’EX with just an IC card?

No. The limited-express ticket is needed in addition to the base fare. Skyliner is fully reserved, and you should check your N’EX train and seat. An IC-card balance alone does not secure the required ticket or a seat.

Do children travel free on airport transport?

Rules depend on the service and seat use. Even a young child may need a ticket for an individual seat. Check the official conditions linked in the children’s-seat section above.

Can I bring two suitcases on an airport bus?

It depends on the operator. TYO-NRT generally allows about one suitcase per passenger. Tokyo Airport Transportation’s general limit is two, subject to per-piece size and weight limits; joint services can differ. Check the actual route’s rules before booking.

Will I catch the last train after a late arrival?

Landing time alone is not enough. Account for immigration and baggage collection, then check the last usable connection to the hotel. A late-night bus fare does not establish an overnight service. Check the hotel’s check-in deadline and prepare an alternative.
