Train from Hakata to Kokura
The city guide’s roughly 15-minute Shinkansen estimate is station to station. Add your hotel journey, waiting and the transfer for Mojiko, and check fares and pass coverage.
Check official details ↗Combine a Kokura Castle walk with Mojiko’s waterfront. Compare departures from Hakata or Tenjin, check rail-pass coverage and station names, and plan the journey back.
Official information reviewedFirst compare a train from Hakata with a bus from Tenjin around your hotel location. Our starting plan is Kokura Station → castle and a meal → JR to Mojiko Station → waterfront walk → return to Fukuoka. Choose just Kokura or Mojiko for a late start or a day needing more breaks.
The city guide’s roughly 15-minute Shinkansen estimate is station to station. Add your hotel journey, waiting and the transfer for Mojiko, and check fares and pass coverage.
Check official details ↗The official city guide estimates about 1 hour 35 minutes by express bus from Tenjin to Kokura Station. Traffic affects the journey; check the operator’s timetable, stops and return services for your date.
Check official details ↗Choose Kokura for the castle and a city meal, or Mojiko for waterfront scenery and baked curry. You do not need to complete both areas.
Check official details ↗JR Kyushu states that its rail passes do not cover the Hakata–Kokura Shinkansen because this is JR West’s Sanyo Shinkansen. Look up a covered conventional-line or limited-express route separately, including reservations and extra charges. Check the coverage of any other pass by its exact product name.
Check official details ↗The castle gives about 15 minutes on foot from Kokura Station or 10 from Nishi-Kokura. Standard adult castle-tower admission is ¥500; combination tickets are separate products. Hours shown on the homepage and visitor guide may differ, so check the operating notice for your date.
Use JR Mojiko Station for the retro waterfront area. Moji is a separate station; look up a Mojiko-bound connection from Kokura. A harbour walk, building admission, viewing platform and sightseeing train have separate operating rules, so check last entry and service dates for your chosen stops.
Check official details ↗Our suggestion: after the castle, shorten the day to a city meal and return if rain worsens; in Mojiko, keep to one waterfront area and a meal. Check stroller exits, steps and rest stops at each venue, and save your return connection to Fukuoka first.
That Shinkansen section is excluded. Match your exact pass to the train and route, and check conventional-line or limited-express alternatives.
It is a possible itinerary, depending on your start time and sightseeing or meal queues. Start with the castle and a Mojiko waterfront walk, dropping one area if time is short.
Leave space between your arrival journey and a side trip.
Choose between city sightseeing and a bath-focused outing.
