A shorter park outing
Station → park walk → meal or rest → return. This JapanPin suggestion leaves out temple admission if children are tired.
Nara Park is free to visit, while Todaiji’s Great Buddha Hall has a separate admission fee. With children, plan a rest stop and your return station before deciding whether to feed the deer.
Official information reviewedFor a first visit, build the day around a park walk and the Great Buddha Hall. Stay beside children around the wild deer; feeding them is optional. Nara Park Bus Terminal’s east building can be a useful nursing and rest stop.

Keep the park and Great Buddha Hall as your main stops. Check tickets and seasonal closing times; the stairs to Nigatsu-do need not be part of the same outing.
Save the bus terminal location and keep the walking plan short. Do not arrive expecting to borrow a stroller there.
The city tourism association lists about eight minutes on foot from Kintetsu-Nara and twenty from JR Nara to the park. These are not walking times all the way to the Great Buddha Hall. Compare Osaka departures in our transport guide and save your return station separately.
Check official details ↗Official guidance describes the deer as wild animals: give only shika senbei deer crackers, never other food, paper or plastic. Do not tease or grab them. If a child is frightened, we suggest watching from a distance rather than feeding. Keep snacks and packaging secure and take rubbish away.
Check official details ↗The table uses individual admission from the city tourism association and Todaiji. The Great Buddha Hall lists 7:30–17:30 for April–October and 8:00–17:00 for November–March. Museum hours differ; check each venue before buying the joint pass. Ask the temple about preschool admission or other concessions rather than assuming eligibility.
Todaiji maps a west-side ramp at the Great Buddha Hall and an accessible approach from the prefectural car park and west-side taxi rank. The Nigatsu-do approach has slopes and uneven levels; stairs to its upper area are not wheelchair accessible. This is not a promise of step-free access throughout the park. Use the official map and ask staff about your route.
Check official details ↗Nara Park Bus Terminal’s FAQ lists one nursing room on each of floors 1 and 2 of the east building, and no stroller rental. Listed building hours are 7:30–20:00, subject to change. The address is 76 Noborioji-cho, Nara (奈良市登大路町76). Check room availability and the facilities you need on arrival.
Check official details ↗JapanPin suggestion: arrival station → bus terminal break if needed → park walk → optional Great Buddha Hall → meal → your chosen return station. Shorten outdoor walks and extra temple visits in heavy rain or when children are tired. Give Nara its own time rather than trying to cover Kyoto too.
The park walk is free. Paid venues such as Todaiji’s Great Buddha Hall are separate; check the conditions for the area you intend to enter.
