Biei in winter from Sapporo: tours, trains & getting back
Before choosing photo stops, decide where your trip starts and how you will return. Separate a Sapporo-departure tour from travel within Biei.

Where should I start?
For a tour, check whether transport starts and ends in Sapporo. For independent travel, plan the transfer at Asahikawa and onward transport after reaching Biei. We suggest fixing your return plan first and allowing for winter delays. This page is not a confirmed 2026–27 winter tour schedule.
Compare the options for your trip
A tour departing from Sapporo
Before booking, check the meeting point, finish location, language, stops and meals. A tour departing from Biei Station does not imply return transport from Sapporo. Ask the operator about child eligibility, seats, stroller storage and cancellation terms.
JR plus local transport
The tourism association describes a JR route from Sapporo via Asahikawa to Biei. Reaching Biei Station is separate from reaching sights such as the Blue Pond. Look up trains and local bus or taxi connections for your date.
JapanPin suggestion: consider an overnight stay if you want an evening visit or the return journey is tight. Arrange the last leg to your hotel, dinner and next-day transport first. A hotel booking does not itself provide transfers to sights or guarantee winter road access.
Do not use a summer timetable for winter
The reviewed Biei View Bus 2026 page covers summer and autumn, with its last listed service on October 12. Do not treat it as a winter departure or carry its prices, ages and cancellation rules into another product. Use a current listing specifying the winter date, departure point and operator.
The tourism association explains that snow on the frozen pond can hide its blue water. Plan for a snow-covered landscape rather than the summer view. Check the current year’s illumination dates and times separately, along with transport back after dark.
Use JR Hokkaido for train and service information. For an independent trip, we suggest writing down your Biei–Asahikawa–Sapporo return connections first. Decide which stop to drop if local travel runs late. Keeping a long side trip off your flight-departure day gives you more flexibility.
Our planning checklist: ask the operator about toilet breaks, seats and belts, stroller storage and lunch. Pack warm layers and a change of clothes, and identify somewhere to rest after a short outdoor stop. Do not assume one tour’s child policy applies to another.
Keep to permitted paths for photos
The official bus guidance says fields and pastures are private property and must not be entered. Snow can hide boundaries, so stay out of fields for photos. Follow signs and operator instructions for viewing and stopping places; we suggest keeping the number of stops manageable.
